I've seen Sempron ,Turion ,Centrino.Celeron,Duocore, and a bunch of others. I am looking to buy a laptop, which is a good make at a mid range price ...but I'm confused at all the processors out there....and what is a lightscribe ?and is a duo core really better because I ve seen some duocore at only 1.66 mghz ...while I ve seen NON Duocore at 2.0mghz ..surely this is stronger than 1.66mghz....it's all too confusing for me HELP !!!!! thanks in advance from a novice

First, I'll rank the CPU for you.
Note that I am doing this based on the fact that you are getting a laptop, not a desktop. 1 being the highest.
1) Core 2 Duo
2) Core Duo
3) Core Solo
4) Turion / Pentium M (often mistaken as Centrino, which is really a technology than a CPU)
5) Sempron / Celeron

If you are getting a new laptop, please get either Core Duo or Core 2 Duo. If you get a Pentium 4 or Athlon XP, you are buying old technology. If you are getting Sempron or Celeron, you will regret it if you are a power user.

Note that CPU speed does not matter across the type; it only matter within the type.

For example, the desktop processor Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz) is slower than E6700 (2.66Ghz), but it eats all other non-Core-2-Duo processor for breakfast, no matter what their speed is (yes, even Pentium 4 3.4 Ghz is not as fast). Simply put, speed is not everything. Everything from design to cache has an effect.

About lightscribe... it just let you burn images on the cover side of certain types of CDs or DVDs that support it. It is not really that important, since lightscribe has yet getting popular; although it is indeed cool.

precessor is how many things your computer can process at one time. You don't have to worry about megaherz as these processors are outdated. You only have to worry about gigaherz. For every one gig herz, you computer can precess 1 billion things per secound. If you get a 2 gigherz your computer can process to billion things at once. Lightscribe is a new dvd technology that allows you put labels on special lightscribe technology. Its actually pretty cool. I would recommend getting a laptop that is at least 2.4 gigaherz. The lab top sould have at least 512 ddr ram if not a full gig. I would also make sure your laptop comes with a 128 megabite geforce video card if you plan to play any games on it. When you play the game it used the ram on your video card, not your pc, so it won't freeze up if your playing a game. Make sure you also got a good sound card to, as you want sound and its important. please not that if you get a dvd burner with it, your going to need better software if you plan to copy video games, software, pc games, and etc. You need dvdfab platinum 3 to copy dvd's. to copy pc games software, and video games, then get alchol 120%. for a standard burning program I would recommend nero. also make sure your laptop comes with a nice networking card, so you can have high speed internet access. I would also make sure the harddrive is at least 80 gig.

When discussing duocore, you must double the ghz (almost) hence the duocore. In your example, the duocore is a great deal more efficient and faster. As for 1-10, it is just conjecture.I prefer intel p4.
