I have had a slight argument with my parents about the duration of my showering habits. They say that five minutes is sufficient and I tend to lean more toward fifteen minutes. I am an only child and it isn't the same times that they shower but they still think that fifteen minutes is too long. What do you think in comparison to your own and your families habits? Thanks in advance!

I too am an only child, as is my daughter. I have been asked this question before and have timed myself several times and I seem to take 11 minute showers. My daughter on the other hand,. stays in the shower until the hot water runs out, sometimes 30-45 minutes. My husband takes 5 minute showers, but he's bald and doesn't need to wash and thoroughly rinse out hair and put the conditioner on that needs to sit at least 3 minutes to tame the frizzies and doesn't need to shave his legs or his pits, etc. So I think 11 minutes is pretty good for me. I really don't care how long my daughter stays in the shower. I'm just happy she showers and has good hygiene.

I'm a guy, I am 21 yrs old, I shower about 15 fifteens minutes. I think your parents have troubles. Cause 5 minutes just isn't enough time for showering. You have to wash your hair and body, and some people brush teeths during shower. So I will say 15 minutes is about right.
For girls, half hour to an hour is very very norma lol.

Why the heck are your parents monitoring your shower time? Good gravy! I take fifteen minutes without washing my hair. No way is five minutes enough shower time. When I wash my hair that even takes longer than five minutes! So when I include washing my hair I am in there for about half an hour.

I'm on your side dude.

Well, actually, 15 minutes is not really too long. Some people usually do take longer times when they're in the shower. Women, for example, has a long list of ceremonies they need to do in order to be considered that they've really taken a bath. And I guess this is the same for men as well.

Sometimes we really can't help it if our parents call our attention to certain things that we do which is contrary to their normal course of doing them.

I've had a couple myself and my parents did it to me as well. Yes, it does get on your nerves from time to time but rest assured that they mean well.

They are after all our parents, you know.

I think it is a matter of personal presence. You probally feel relaxed while showering, which is similar to someone lying in the bathtub soaking for 15-20 minutes. Members of our family all differ in the way they shower or bath. As long as they want to be clean, I don't care how long it takes.

I have thick long hair, so it takes longer if I am shampooing my hair. If I am sore from working our or something, I'll put the shower head on pulse and stand there a little bit,,,,dunno how many minutes for a plain shower..... You are wasting a LOT of water if every shower you take is 15 minutes long tho!
CONSERVE !

For me 5 Minutes isn't enough.I love to shower and usually don't get out until the water goes cold.I wouldn't fuss if my kids wanted to shower for 15 minutes as long as it's not affecting anyone else from getting in the shower.

Are you serious? When I lived with my parents they didn't care how long i was in there.. but yea 5 minutes isn't long when I was 16 I went JJC and they only gave me 5 minutes only thing I had enough time to do is put shampoo in no conditioner (it takes longer with long and thick hair) you should be able to take one for 15 to 20 minutes at least!

My son's showers (he is 8) take 3.2 seconds. That's the first time I send him in. Then I discover the shampoo bottle is dry, the soap is dry, and he smells the same way afterwards as he did when he went in. So I send him in again. This one takes 5.5 seconds. Once again his hair is dry, and he is still smelly. So back in again he goes. This goes on until I stand in the bathroom and supervise his shower. As you can guess, this takes 15 minutes or more.

I would love a son who spent 15 minutes in the shower and washed all parts of his body and hair and came out all by himself squeekly clean.

I am a short showerer myself. That being said, perhaps your parents care about the water bill. If so, they have a legitimate reason-water can be very expensive depending on where you live. Can you compromise? Maybe 10 minutes? Can you use a timer? If it's not about the money, I, as a parent, wouldn't care about my daughter's length of shower
