You hate the Yankees because you envy them. You hate the fact that they have great success and your Angels and Dodgers don't. Don't think for a moment that if your teams had the chance at that kind of success they wouldn't take it! It's just a game. Your question would have been better served if you just left out the hate part. The answer has to do with the playoff structure. Everyone knows that the regular season is almost meaningless. All a team has to do is make the playoffs and at that point it becomes a crap shoot. Whoever instituted the 5 games short series should have their head examined. Every round should be the best of 7. This years world series was a great example of the system going completely haywire. The Cardinals (83-78) think that they are the "worlds best"!! Are you kidding me?? Looks at Seattle a few years ago. They won 116 games but got knocked out early. Like it or not the Yankees are still the best team in baseball. They are still the team everyone talks about more than any other. There is nothing wrong with the Yankees but there is a great deal wrong with the playoff system. There was a time when a team actually had to win the pennant out right in order to play in the world series.

their pitching aint the same as it used to. Rivera and Mussina are the pitchers who have proven themselves as great players but then u have R. Johnson who is aging and is decling every year. Their bullpen isnt do much help either, also the starting pitching has too many problems. The best pitching staff in the Al East are the Jays only when healthy. The Red Sox pitching staff are the best overall but Beckett gives to many homeruns and schilling is like Johnson. The Yankees have the best offence in the AL but offence can only carry u so far and thats why yankees are not winning right now

This is a very good question. I am a Yankees fan since 1995. The Yankees have not been winning the World Series because they dont have clutch players period. Look at the 2003 Florida Marlins when the beat us, they had a bunch of rookies that were clutch. Look at the 2006 St. Louis Cardinals, winning only 83 games and still beat the Tigers whom beat the Yankees! The season is all about having a good all-star lineup, but the playoffs is about having clutch players.

In a short series, pitching defeats batting. there is not a more powerfull line up than the Yankees have, but their pitching is below average. I know Wang is a great pitcher... but after him Mussina? randy? Wright? I just expect this year we sign better arms, and balance the team, trade A-rod for a first starter (a la Santana) and sweep the playoffs. And please, convince Paul O Neill to play again, he was the soul of the Yanks!

Good pitching beats good hitting. The Yankees have relied upon older more established pitchers and it hasn't worked. Yeah the team looks great on paper but when your starters are Mussina, Pavano, Johnson, and Wang you're not going to overpower the opposition. They need to bring up Philip Hughes.

In my opinion, all of those players are great and a team like that should win the WS. However, I feel the problem is that the Yankees are not a "team". They are a bunch of players with big contracts that play ball. "Teams" have comraderie. They like each other and stick up for each other. They don't talk about the other players negatively to the press. Like them or hate them, I think that is why the Red Sox won in 2004. They played hard but called themselves "idiots". They never took themselves too seriously and it showed. Until the players start showing mutual respect for each other, I don't think you'll see them winning another WS. You can't buy the World Series no matter how hard you try and I think its time Steinbrenner figures that out.

2 issues, the best pitcher you named was Mussina
Who was the youngest guy you named?
They are all getting older, A-rdod and Jeter are at their peak, the rest of going down the hill - Rivera will always be good, but Abreu, Johnson, Giambi that just are not worth all that money, they are passed it.
They are not a good team, that have a great lineup, but a poor clubhouse, poor starting pitching and an average bullpen
They will not win until they clear out some of these guys and bring in some young home developed talent

properly, i don't think of we favor Giambi. Mussina will be a reliable addition to the rotation although the dude is a reliable pitcher yet he's getting previous and could initiate to get fairly some those injuries like this 12 months. The pink sox of direction are not that loaded like the yankees. maximum of there huge money are going Manny and Varitek. they favor to basic techniques to spend there money reliable on those free brokers that are available. I hear Zito is available on the marketplace. yet he's wondering abut going to the Yankees or someplace on the west coast. I dont imagine the pink sox are going to objective to compete with the cost. His new agent is Scott Boras. Yikes

Here's the deal: if you do not have consistently good starting pitching, a good bullpen and really good defense...you will NOT win championships.
Baseball is still a simple game and a game where the offense fails 7 or 8 out of 10 times. That isn't gonna change.

There is a lot of luck involved with winning the WS. They have been very unlucky, but I think we will soon see an extremely dominating performance by this team.
People on this site like to act like they know what goes on in the Yankee clubhouse. They say there is turmoil and picture a bunch of millionaires argueing over petty things, but you never hear any of this reported. Where are they getting their info from?
