I'm trying to prepare for the holidays and need to find a book for a guy who really loves wooden boats. I was thinking a cool coffee-table style book with great pictures would be nice. He also has a passion for old trains. Any ideas out there?

A subscription to Wooden Boats Magazine would be nice. There is also a book called wooden sailboats with pictures of all different classes of wooden boats, with the only downfall being that there is a photo of Ted Kennedys boat. Shipwrecks around New England and Cape Cod are also good coffee table books.

Buy any copy of Wooden Boat Magazine. In the back there are several plans for sale for small boats. They also have an online store with book titles like "50 boats you can build" or "How to build the Nutshell Pram". I have seen at least 150 books at their online store and I have the two books I mentioned above. They are well written and can be followed by a novice. I hope this helps you out

www.woodenboat.com is the magazine for those of us afflicted with terminal love of wooden boats....of the hundred odd books in my library, I would HIGHLY recommend " A Passage in Time" by Pete Spector on the Maine wood windjammer fleet.....
