When should a man "pay" child support? Is that the question? If so, then he should pay it whenever he isn't physically supporting his children by being their primary care giver. At least until they reach the age of 18.

generally if a man biologically fathers a child and isnt married to/supporting the mother, he is obligated by law to support the child/children a certain % of his monthly salary. some states require different %'s so checking with a lawyer if you can afford the consult (unless you can find one that doesnt charge a consult fee) might be a good idea. you can find out what steps to take in order to start getting your $. if he refuses to pay or neglects it he can be arrested and put in jail and any wages garnished...

When the court tells him to. If he's a good father he'll pay before the court tells him to to help support his child after he leaves.

Get joint custody and split it down the middle. Unless you got the shaft and only get every other weekend, then you have to pay it. Don't hurt your kid(s) just because your wife sucks. And make sure she is using it for child support, not buying herself new shoes.
