Don't know what redcougar is talking about. It is actually a green pick that was made from satan's tooth. Whoever plays with the pick is granted an amazing ability to play guitar that they normally wouldn't have. In the movie, magazine pictures show that the guitarists of Van Halen, AC-DC, and other famous rock bands all were playing with the pick of destiny. Ben Stiller's character in the movie explains the origin of the pick and that it is now stored in the rock and roll history museum. The Tenacious D guys go on a mission to steal the pick of destiny and wield its otherworldly power.

Like jt_kling said above, it is in fact based on a pick which came from satan's tooth. However, the evil one has planted a couple false ones around the world in hopes that only his unholy agents (primarily FBI agents who live secret lives as members of garage bands and wanna-be rock stars) will have access to the real one. The REAL "pick of destiny" is the one used by Milli Vanilli. Now you know, what the REAL "pick of destiny" is. But use it wisely or it will consume your mortal soul.
