what gauge extension cord should I use for my christmas lights? I have commercial grade mini christmas lights from GE that say you can connect up to six runs. Each run is 200 lights and 58 feet and I will be using 6 runs together. I have to run 200 feet from the house before getting to the mini lights. The box of xmas lights say they are 67.2w 120v 60hz. I have always heard that 300 mini lights = 1amp. What gauge extension cord should I use since I need 200 feet of it? Thanks

Okay, the longer the run, the larger the voltage drop. Get heavy duty outdoor cord meant for lawn mowers, and other outdoor tools, and be sure. The minimum gauge should be 14, and a 12 gauge cord will last for years without any danger of overloading. Do not use indoor cords of any gauge, they will be too stiff.

nicely, this could be an prolonged-winded answer, however the base line, regardless of the moral issues, is you have voltage drop out the wazoo. i'm specific there's a chart on the information superhighway. i will wager you have one hundred and five available which makes the compressors on the freezers unhappy. in the event that they the two kick in on an analogous time with some corrosion on the plugs, you may pop the breaker, that could the two effect in an thrilling communique including your neighbor (till his panel is particularly attainable) or in case you do not catch it good away, you will come domicile to molten meat working out the freezer's doors with flies to maintain you corporation. i could fess up and do the job good - run a dedicated 20 amp circuit (or momentary #12 extension twine) out of your service panel on your freezers, providing you with spare capacity to run a Skilsaw or despite and your lighting fixtures. return the twine to the neighbor, with thank you and a fruitcake, giving him something to regift on the place of work occasion. it is your gig from there. stable success!
