It has taken me forever to grow out my nails But I want to get an electric guitar can you play the guitar with long nails ?

You sound like me! I've just recently stopped chewing my nails,after so many years,and i actually play the electric guitar. I'm learning still,but in year two. You can have longer nails,but they can only be so long becuz you need to use your finger tips to hold down the guitar strings while your fingers are curved,so if they are very long they will get in the way!I have mine to where if you hold your hand palm towards your face,you can just see the nail over your finger tip,and they are just starting to get in the way.

You're most likely going to use a pick anyway with an electric guitar so short nails should be fine.

No, at least not on the left hand that you use to make your chords, etc.
I have been playing guitar for 2 decades, and when my nails get even a little long I have to cut them.

Choose your priority ~~~ I play the guitar and keep my nails short>>>>> how do you think you are going to press down on the strings with long nails,,,, the tips of my fingers are calloused from the strings ,,, but oh so worth it!

I have the same problem! But I'm still in "want" to play... I'd say, make sure your nails are strong, or just learne to play without them getting in the way.

I'm in a band and i play lead guitar, i have very long nails, it helps. try running your nails down the strings, i love it, oooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes if your nails are long on your dominant hand only. Then you can use them to pick.

Yes. In fact, the pastor at my church says in order to play,. u NEED long nails. makes it sound interesting.

I have never tried it, but my nails have never kept me from doing anything.
