Most vegans are also Communists so I would question why he's celebrating Thanksgiving. Maybe Some borst would be appropriate. Isn't that what Commies eat?. Or maybe he's not a Commie, maybe he's one of those lunatics from Peta that love animals and hate people. Ask him if he's against eating anything that's casts a shadow, maybe a baked potato is what the Doctor ordered. If it was me what ever I made for him I would slip a little bit of meat into it and then tell him after dinner. Wait long enough that he can't throw it up. The look on his Commie/human hating face will be priceless

My son was a vegan for about 5years. They don't eat any animals of any kind (this includes fish and poultry - basically anything that has a face on it ) nor anything that has any ingredients that come from animals, no butter, cheese, or milk of any kind. If you serve anything that comes out of a package or box, it's a sure bet it will have one of these hidden ingredients. Trust me, I read labels for 5 years (took me forever to grocery shop) Stick with fresh veggies, rice dishes, mushroom dishes, tofu dishes/casseroles and fruits. When you make your own veggies, pull some off to the side for your guest and don't put any butter on anything. Lightly saute' veggies with olive oil and some spices will take you a long way. Desserts, keep them simple, no creams or ice creams, (remember no dairy) -. look up recipes for tofu desserts on the net. I found one that had a chocolate mousse that is out of this world and even your carniverous guests will love it. Have great holiday!

Just my opinion, but my wife and I stopped eating a bird, or anything that PRETENDS to be a bird, a long time ago. We eat acorn squash and / or pumpkin with cinnamon (and sometimes dill), split pea soup, yams (no butter, but they go nice with maple syrup and a little fennel), and various other traditional side items that are well adapted from the "old" ways (for instance, mashed potatoes doesn't require milk or butter like my mom used to use -- water is fine, add a little white truffle oil for the nice mouth feel and a little anch chili powder or turmeric for color). We also toss in some non-traditional stuff like navratan koorma (not sure if this is made with milk or yogurt, please check) or vindaloo vegetables -- many Indian vegetarian dishes are quite hearty!

A very simple dish I make for my best friend who also won't eat meat. Spaghetti & vegetables. I take a small pot add about 3 tablespoons of garlic chopped up, Lightly cook it and then add 1 cup of vegetable broth, let simmer while you cook the Spaghetti, In another dish put mixed vegetables, I get (Rancho Vegs in the frozon section) But any Veggies are ok. put them in the microwave and cook. When the Spaghetti is done, addVeggies,& Broth top with Italian Cheese. It is very tasty. You could also start with a nice Salad. They also sell Veggie Burgers.

dont give him anything special. most times there's enough stuff there as far as vegies are concerned for him to eat. im a meat eater but sometimes, some rice or salad is a good enough plate for me.

besides that he knows he's comin to a thanksgiving dinner and he oughta expect meat to be there. i dont think you will have a problem with that. most vegans aren't rabid PETA members. as long as he respects your friends and family, i dont think there should be a problem.

if you feel you have to make something special for him, make enough so everyone can have. there are a lot of good vegan dishes even us meat eaters can enjoy. i should know. vegan hamburger is delicious. lol.

Non- PC answer here.

Tell him to bring his own damn food. that his personell choices as to what to eat are doo damn much for you to worry about when you are trying to prepair a meal for an entire family. and that you are not going to cook anything special just for him because of his personel choice.

but to actually answer your question. if he is Vegan he cannot have ANY animal products. no Dairy, no Meat, no Gelatin,
Nothing cooked in the same skillet or pan with any or the above.

most breads are out because of the eggs used in them.
most salad dressings are out for Milk and other dairy additives.
No Butter, or Butter Margerine mixes.
Most pre flavoured stuffing mix and rice mixes are out.

they do make a TOFU TURKEY, but TOFU is horrible unless it is cooked with something that will allow it to soak up it's flavour.

so you are basically left with salad..and most dressings are questionable. Thousand Island is usually ok. oil based Dressings are usually OK.
