They should be automatic, and there to lose through criminal acts. If they are there to be earned, then you would have a subjective list of accomplishments people would have to achieve, and there would be those arguing the poor, the homeless, or members of "different" races or creeds had not earned their rights.

Glad you asked. Many men and women have devoted their lives and some even died fighting for those civil rights. They dont come handed on a platter.
Hope we can show respect for their efforts by cherishing those same rights.

Our American hero's earned those rights for us. Be glad you are an American. As individual American citizens we didn't need to earn them for ourselves,but they were earned.
