My little clown fish passed away today, his was in my tank for about 8 months now. He was severly undersized and Ive expected his death a few times over the past few months, he went through a phase where he wasnt eating at all, but he seemed to get through it and was thriving for a while. Unfortunatley the little guy died today and he left behind a mate. Is there anyway to introduce another female into the tank with hopes of mating or do clown fish choose one mate for life. Let me know what you guys think?

One mate for life = myth.

Hi P_Rob,

Ichthyologist here. Clownfish, being sexually bimorphic, will almost always form a pair if there are two-- the larger becoming the female. If your little one died, that would be the male, and the female remaining should be bigger than the new introduction or there will be fighting until one decides to get bigger and the other becomes a male.

Make sure the fish is healthy, and all should be well.

Fish don't choose 1 mate for life. You can introduce another female. It probably died of old age.

I think that clown fish don't really understand "one true mate"....so basically i think that the clownfish that you still have in ur tank could still mate with another female that u would introduce in the tank.

WELL fish only have a memory of only few minutes so chances are that the mate wont remember the other fish so yeah you can get another fish.

Im sorry to hear about your fish. If he wasn't eating you should have gotten the Medication there is. He might have been on stress or have an illness.

And about the female stuff you might want to read this:

That's too important to leave up to people's opinions. I'd google it, and get info on clownfish from at least 5 different sites.. and take the info. that they all have in common (not that you have to take my advice!) ;) ..

Good luck with your remaining lil' clown fish, 'tis good he has a caring owner like you! :)

Awww.. I'm so sorry. My fish that lived the longest was named Khaos The Death Fish. He was such a sweet little black goldfish. I loved him so much... Anywho... He lived for about 9months. I'm not sure....

it would stay? You DO recognize that they stay contained in the sea? precise? Are you asking if it would get eaten? maximum do no longer pass a approaches from the place they oftentimes are in the time of the day. they only..tuck away in some rocks in the time of the night.
