First, my XP Home edition disk is NOT bootable... When I try to run "setup" from the disk, it says that I have a newer version on my computer than the disk, and will not let me proceed. Is there some way I can bypass this OR is there a free software that will allow me to reformat the drive and reload XP Home Edition? I've tried what I think is just about everything!

If you have upgraded your windows, such as from ME to XP then the restore disk may not work. It is an experience I had.
You could try the System Restore which takes you back to a time when your computer was working good. Go To:
start
programs
accessories
systems tools
system restore
This process is completely reversable. And does not remove your personal files. Just go back one checkpoint at a time until your puter is working good again.

If your trying to run the setup program from within Windows, then you have a problem. To reformat your drive, you need to restart your computer and boot from the CD, rather than the hard drive you usually boot to. From here, you will be able to format the disk and start anew. I'm not sure if you have tried this or not, but for me, it works all the time.

Put the windows cd in the drive and restart your computer. If the computer boots from the cd, it will begin the installation process. Choose new install. Press Enter to begin installation. Press F8 to agree license. On the next screeen. Press D to delete partition. press L to confirm. Delete all partitions. Then create new partitions. press C to create new partition in the unpartitioned space. Allocate space. Make more than one partitions according to your need.
When there is no unpartitioned space left. Choose the uppermost partition, press Enter to continue installation. Choose NTFS as the file system for formatting. And proceed with installation.

Okay, I am kind of an computer wizzard.
What I would try is following thing
go to start
go to search
type in the version of hxp home edition

let it go through the search.
than when the icon comes click it on and open it
do the uninstallment thing

than take your disk and reinstall.

Thats what I would do.. I hope this helps.
If not go online internet.
www.microsoft.com
go to chat technical support, they guide you through the same time as you're on the computer.
