And it must be typed. I've looked all over the internet, and in character map to have it on the page, so i can copy and paste it..but i can't find it anywhere.

Unicode value: 8776
If you're using HTML, you can just type in ≈ and it will display the character. If you're posting in a forum, it will depend if it's smart enough to interpret that or not.
Otherwise, just copy and past.

Approx Symbol

The two squiggly lines is one of at least five symbols I know that are used for "approximately equal" in mathematics.

The others are:
- the single squiggle (the "tilde") which is typically shift-` (key to the left of the 1 key on a standard 101 keyboard)
- an equals with a dot over top of it
- an equals sign with a tilde over it
- an equals sign with three parallel lines instead of two

So for tilde, it is shift-`.

I found all of the above symbols in the MS-Windows Character Map application using the Symbol font (many Greek and mathematics symbols are found in the Symbol font). I'm running XP SP2, but I suspect that these will be available for all MS-Windows versions from at least Win95 and on.

The one you are asking about (two squigglies) is listed as character 0xBB, which is in row 7, column 15.

Hope this helps.

If you're using Microsoft Word, go to Insert on your menu and choose Symbols. They have a version of the approximate symbol on the chart.

Typically when typing you can use Tilde (~) as the approx. symbol. It's in the upper left hand corner and you need to use shift to get it.
