I have a math test tomorrow so I need to know to know how to do this:

Find the X-intercepts of y= sin πx/2 +1..(y equals sin times pi x over two plus one) I hope you can understand it. by the way the answere is -1,3..I need to know how to do it.

It means what are the values of x where the curve cuts the x axis. Well, where x=-1, y= sin-pi/2 + 1 = -1+1=0 so that's one such point (remember it cuts the x axis wherever y = 0). and where x=3, y=sin 3 pi/2 +1 =-1+1=0. In other words, the question asks you to find all the values of x which make y equal to zero.

ok so, it is giving you a formula. To figure out the x-intercepts you need a graphing calculator. (If you don't have one google search graphmatica, it is a free program that will graph your math problem)

now hoping that you have a ti-80 series of a calculator, follow the steps below:

1.Press the "y=" button (should be on the very top left)

2. now you will type in the problem. below is the buttons you need to press. (the "-" means new button)

sin - ( - x,t,0,n - 2nd - pi - ) - / - 2 - ) - + - 1

It should all look like this
sin((x pi)/2+1)

3. after you have entered the function, press the graph button on the top right.

4. give the calculator a couple of seconds and it will graph the line. the points that cross the x-axis are the x-intercepts.

5. to see the actual points, press the "2nd" button and then the graph button on the top right, you will then see a table of all the numbers put into the function as x.

I hope i helped and good luck. also if you need anymore help i have a project i did on all 6 trigonimetric functions and how they are affected.
