Basically, im 18 and trying to figure out a way to get to college, to have an education and become trained for the real work world. Problem is i have limited funds. All my life i grew up very financially independent. Now i make enough to have a decent living but i still live at home. I cant imagine how i could afford college, by working at a job that requires no skills/education. And how do people go to college and pay for their car and insurance, gas, cell phone, clothes, food, dates, ETC. I mean, i could eliminate some of these bills, but in todays society its a must to have a cell phone. How can students have a job and maintain their school work? i want an education and i want it fast. I was very close to joining the Navy, but decided its not for me. now i feel like im going no where without college, any ideas?!

Statements you are making are conflicting....

You are financially independent. You make enough to have a decent living but you still live at home and you have very limited budget for college.

This does not make any sense.

It seems you have to set/reset your priorities. You can't have EVERYTHING. If it is your desire to get an education, then cut down on some of your liesure activities.

My suggestion is to start with community colleges. Tuitions are a lot less. You can get an AA degree and it will substitute for the first 2 years of the 4 year college.

I would suggest starting at a Community college - I know it doesn't sound like the most exciting idea, but the cost is low and you can figure out what you want to do.
You could even take just a couple classes if you needed to work. I take 12 credit hours a semester and work a 30 hr week. I am a little older than you (22 yrs), but you could do something like that I'm sure. You seem like you have a good head on your shoulders!
Apply as soon as possible and they might even give you some funding. Good Luck!

same here , i worked since i was 15. so you are always going to have to work . but , to be honest apply for all the scholarship you can and do your best. Have you thought about online college? well you can still hold a full time job , go to college and go do stuff with your friends.
Online college gives you the chance to Have A LIFE. Also if you having money problems , apply for a student loan . this will put you in debt but you don't have to pay back til your done. so good luck and remember education is
Costly , but it will make you more money than you will pay monthly on a student loan. Good luck and i hope that i have helped you

They work for companies that have a benefit of PAID TUITION.
I did that, and I had to pay for books and all else but that paid tuition helped me...but I could only take classes at night college 2 nights a week...and it's tough! I was always tired.

THAT'S WHAT I HAD...and I went to community college for the first 2 years. The first two years are the same everywhere...and the company you may get an excellent job at a later time only cares where you graduate.

What's worse is when you work...pay your bills and they take your job away........and force you to retire ahead of time...the bills still come.....and that's much older.
It's good that you are getting a reality check...and I hope you never forget it.

Your education is a gift to yourself that lasts forever.

There are also courses online by the University of Phoenix.

Many students who are financially independent and paying for college on their own can apply for financial aid. Depending on the amount of money that you make, you can get a big chunk of college paid for through grants and other financial aid.

Try student loans if you're able to apply. Also apply for scholarships and bursaries (depending on your grades)
Work in the summer. Also, if you really can't afford it time some time off after high school and work so you can save up.

State school will always be the cheaper way to go, or better yet start at community college (just be sure your credits will transfer). Your diploma doesn't list where you started school, it lists where you graduated from, so two years of community college is great way to go for the student on a budget.

I'm planning on starting soon at a community college. I'm probably more limited than any one else. Good luck getting answers.
