Bearings is an okay answer, but is more relative to nautical and aeronautical procedures as opposed to those on land which are referred to as an azimuth. 0 and 360 degrees are NOT true north however. True north is as determined by the direction of the north star. Grid north is the north as seen on a map along the Prime Meridian. Magnetic north is the 0 and 360 degree readings on a compass. The arrow is not pointing to the true north and actually varies from time to time as the magnetic fields on the earth's poles shift, so this is hardly a true north and is hardly always accurate. Though the fluctuations are very infinitesimal, over long distances it can make a difference in travel even if the variation was only by a few feet.

The arrow points to North, 0 and 360 are also true north.
