in other words, what are the psychological/physiological consequences of sucking candies or whatever?

i do concurr that sugarless sweets are not in themselves a pacifier. but the sucking action is a regression ( yes you have guessed it) to when you were a baby and were sucked by your mother! lol

As a hypogylemic, i've found that sugarless sweets do not soothe. It's all about the sugar.
