This in my opinion is an underrated virtue and one that is not impressed upon children, how do you think we can instil this value on our children to create a better society?

to me i think tolerance is like manners .it shouldn`t need to be taught .If you grow up in an enviroment where every one is good mannered you will behave in the same way and it will stay with you for life as something you do as naturally as breathing .and it`s the same way with open mindedness and tolerance and even knowing right from wrong As much as we don`t like the idea when we are young most people at some point realise that they have turned into one or the other of their parents.

by acting it out with our children. When an opportunity arrives every day (and they do) just be patient and understanding - when someone abuses you for not moving up in the road quickly smile and wave, when the checkout gorl gives you the wrong change pint it out politely to her, take down the signs "no junk mail" people have to make a living. If people light fags and blow the smoke your way move. There are lots of ways how we can show tolerance

Tolerance!
By tolerance you mean the cliche bandied aound by the left wing media?
Should we have been tolerant of hitler, al quaeda, communism, IRA?
Tolerance for tolerance sake in some situations is the equivalent of surrender.
If something is being imposed on us , usually islamic beleifs and needs, then why should we be tolerant?I can tolerate dithering drivers, junk mail,in-laws ,but the muslims who we are expected to "tolerate", dont tolerate our needs and beliefs.
My children are taught more about islam than they are about christianity, they dont have hymns or prayers anymore!
Its our country, our culture, we earned it , we fought for it , let the guests do the tolerating for a while!

I consider you - yet realistically, childrens who're puzzled approximately their sexuality recently could prefer to learn of their own privateness. As a youthful teen some people suspected me of being the two gay or bi on a similar time as i exchange into nonetheless uncertain and in general in denial ~ homosexuality exchange into referred to at school and all it relatively did exchange into spark argument between the religious and the very few who had the middle to stand up for homosexuality ie - me. It only made issues very uncomfortable for every person. yet you're desirable approximately how circumstances are changing, I do exactly not have confidence an entire subject rely on homosexuality ought to be presented. A minor intergration of the subject rely is in all probability the main suitable concept. movie star for you

The fact is sir, or mam is that children should not be tought tolerance in all things. We should not learn to tolerate a tyrannical government as shown in past history. Kids should not tolerate incesent violence acted upon them everyday at school.

I am a kid, but i also have opinions, some more educated then others.

Certain tolerance, such as if you get cut off and you want to kill him but you dont...is good.

Be more specific and i could make a more educated answer.

hope this helped.

I've often wondered about this question... where does tolerance come from?? I grew up in a very small town in Michigan with a lot of prejudice around me... I don't really understand why i'm so open to different races/people and why some people are so ignorant.

I think part of it MIGHT be the fact that my mom worked in a different neighborhood that mostly black people lived in... in a nursing home there, so I was around different races at an early age. That's the only thing I can think of... more experience with different races throughout their lives.

If possible, get them involved in activities where other little kids of different races are... even have play dates with eachother.

If you teach your children to treat ALL others with respect, then tolerance isn't going to be a problem. You can't say to them..."Those are white people and I want you to be nice, even if they're different'. You can't say 'There is a black family down the street and I want you to knock on their door, and ask to play with their son because I want you exposed to black people. That way you won't have any predudices later in life.' What you DO, is teach your child that you don't do anything to someone else, that you don't want done to you. It's basic, and it applies to all people across the board...not one race, orientation or religious belief.

You can't teach tolerance. Children learn from example. First, ask yourself if you are ? It will come to them naturally - as you get older, you become more and more like your parents.

Most children will learn or try to imitate their idols, so, try to be one of it. But, make sure, you must be a very good person. Try to explain to them, the benefits of being good. Try to tell them stories, or even real story about someone's life. Try to feed them with motivational and religious books.

Children learn what they live.

The only way we can teach our children tolerance is to model it for them.
