You can sing anything YOU are comfortable with. Just make it your own. Sell it. Don't try to sound like the "original". How about "PoorUnfortunate Souls" From "Little Mermaid"? Or "As Long as He Needs Me" or "Pick A Pocket" From "Oliver"? Or "Cabaret" or "Don't Tell Momma"---both from "Cabaret". Good luck, be strong and make it your own! Oh and dress nice and fix your hair:) Make sure you shine above the competition.

With no offense meant at all, what causes you to use "trying out for" AND "without a lot of talent" in the same question?

At 12 years of age it's very likely people won't expect extreme "Talent" in any case, and with a low range voice you might have a larger scope of parts you can audition for.

Certainly there are two major issues that any audition seeks. Stage presence, and some degree of talent.

Consider a few things.

Do you exhibit confidence in a public situation? Do you understand the notions and emotions of rejection,,,in this case?

First of all, that "show" has very few solo parts. It's design,,, is young, female chorus,,,with the exception of Annie herself. It's very likely your voice, wouldn't be noticed much from others, in any musical number, unless of course you were extremely off key, etc.

The idea of the audition is also to test your range, and as a stand alone part,,, even if the eventuality will be just one voice among dozens.

Without question, any song choice you make should be one you know by heart, and be performed in the right key, etc. You need not be in costume, nor sing a song from that particular show, but you will need to be stage worthy, no matter.

At 12 your voice has not changed yet! YES! Girls voices can change too! Most girls are sopranos, but during puberty some do change to being altos. You probably have not ever worked with a voice teacher to learn how to sing in your head voice. Think of it as a MICKEY MOUSE type of voice with out being squeaky. Go like this: whooo and go up as far as is comfortable. Keep doing that going up and down. Push yourself to go a little higher, but if it starts to hurt...STOP!

As far as a song is concerned, do not sing anything from Annie. Do not choose a song from CABARET, this is not age appropriate music for a 12 year old. I would suggest I ENJOY BEING A GIRL, from Flower Drum Song by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Another good one is GIVE MY REGARDS TO BROADWAY, byt George M. Cohan.

The most important thing is to have fun. Go for it! Break a leg.

If you want to do things without talent your name needs to be PAris Hilton

Otherwise you better have a little talent!

How rich is your family. A $5,000 investment will usually keep you in a play for a few weeks.

I don't know if you're allowed to sing it, but Kelly Clarkson's Beautiful Disaster is good for low voices. =]
Good luck too!
