If it's degrading for one race to use it describing another, it is degrading when one race uses against another of the same race.
You are correct that it is, in all aspects, an ugly word.
Consider the case in "To Kill A Mockingbird" when the little girl asks her lawyer father whether it is true that he defends ni__ers. He responds that he does and instructs her to not use that word because it is "common." He doesn't get angry with her, but he tells her the truth: don't lower yourself by using that language. The same applies for anyone using it: it abases the user.

Well many comedians have tackled this issue and the best answer I heard was other races that have been oppressed can joke or use racial terms. I do agree this, something about the suffering of the people and process of healing allows these terms to be used by the people who were oppressed.
Now is it right or wrong well that's up to you.

It's not ok, but it is more better that whites don't repeat that word. After the past whties created that word and blacks were fighting for rights, it was the first intention to retire the word. Somehow, the word was slipped into the recycle usage, but really should have been abolished after the end of slavery.

i don't agree with anyone using the word "******", not even blacks but if a white person would say that i would smack the **** out of them, even hispanics say it and that pisses me of because his[anics think that just because they're tan they can use it and that's not the case, white people absolutely can't use it because of the whole "slave" issue, just because you hear black people using the word that don't give you the right to use it...get your **** straight because if you go around with that attitude, you'll find out how mean some black people can get.

I don't like that word either. I don't understand why these young black folks feel they have to say that word. If only blacks in this generation understood what that word stood for back then. If they don't want other races using that word, they shouldn't say it either.

Its not okay. Don't let the actions of a hand full of ignorant people give you the impression that it is. I don't say the N word, and I don't condone anyone else saying it.

Many Black people have turned the word on its head and use it as a term of endearment/friendship. Actually, it makes no sense to me...really, I think a lot of Blacks degrade themselves horribly, but that's their deal I suppose.

Well because when calling each other that its like saying brother but when a white says it its like an insult.Whites have said this word in an insulting way so now blacks automatically think when you say it your insulting them. Its hard to under stand but just except that they don't like it and call them by their name i don't think its a big deal.
