I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and that is my current title. My first professional job was as a drafter making $15 per hour, and I am now making $22 per hour with about 3 years experience. I also really enjoy the job I have now because I am surrounded by good people and I enjoy what I do. The place I am working also has a lot of opportunity for advancement to specialties or management positions once I gain a bit more experience. I work 40 hours a week, and there is usually overtime, but that is optional not mandatory.

If you are considering jobs based only on salary, don't. I have known a lot of people who did that, and basically all of them have either changed jobs or are miserable. The advice that has served me very well is to consider what you are good at and what you enjoy doing. Then find a job that uses those skills that pays enough for you to live comfortably. You will be a lot happier in the long run than if you just go for the money. Good luck!

My major was Sociology, I currently work for a company that books hotels for major trade show conventions, satisfaction is pretty minimal, though I do love my job enviornment and all my co-workers are great, my hours are 8:30am-5pm with a 30 minute lunch and 2, 15 minute breaks. My beginning salary is what i'm making now and I don't want to post that on here for the world to see. =)

Double-major: Political Science and Economics, a year ago. I work a governement job (GS) doing clerical work. I make about $35,000. Life's a b****! I'm trying to move up. But living in Hawaii, I should be so lucky not to be waitressing or bellhopping. The job market sucks here but that's the price we pay for living in Hawaii. It'd be nice if companies would stop importing people from the mainland for jobs that educated locals can do. I've been thinking of moving to the mainland for awhile now, for better job opportunities.
