Ok. Not trying to scare you but my son almost went brain dead with a 105.6 fever when he was 8 months old. They gave him an antibiotic that he ended up having an alergic reaction to. I know it has nothing to do with the topic but just to let you know he has an underdeveloped ear canal because he was born way too early. So I got experience. The antibiotic should take affect 24-48 hours from first dosage. Usually takes about a week +or- for the infection to go away. Give him the antibiotic until its gone usually for about 10 days. Keep giving him the motrin but also try tylonol because it is a fever reducer/pain reliever. If he has a fever over 100.1 take him to the ER if the motrin or tylonol doesnt work for him to get his fever back to normal. If it does take his fever down and hes still crying about pain take a damp wash cloth fully rung out and make sure its warm. Lay it over his ear with minimal pressure and the warmth should help ease the pain enough to where its tolerable. I hope the baby starts feeling better.

It usually takes about 48 hours before the antibiotics start to work. Next week maybe to long. Ear drops should work may take a few minutes, make sure you put cotton in ear. Also you can try sweet oil it works really well too. Try about a half of a teaspoon. You could even try a warm towel against his ear. If nothing works in a couple of days I would take back to dr., not next week. good Luck hope he feels better.

If you have a heating pad, put it on it's lowest temp and lay it on his ear. You may have to hold him and put it on your chest and him against it. If you don't have a heating pad, fold a towel or cup towel and put it in the microwave till it is nice and warm, works the same way. Give the meds at least 24-48 hours, if is is still in pain, the antibiotics may not be working. Bless his little heart, I know his pain. I had them very often as a child. The heating pad and towel thing will help with the pain so he and you can get some rest. Hope he feels better real soon.

the antibiotics should "kick in" in about 24 hours. Heat helps alot with the pain. If you don't have access or money to the numbing drops. They are a wonder drug for sure. In infants, use a warm wash cloth and put it over the infected ear so that it covers the ear and the area around the ear. If they are older children,I have used a hot water bottle and put a towel or pillowcase over it and let them just lay their head on the bottle. watch for leaking and be sure it isn't too hot for them. It takes about 5 min for them to notice it is better. Sometimes alot less.

Not much more you can do. You can try switching to childrens advil every other dose. If your son gets runny poop very often from the antibiotics I recommend you go to the pet aisle at wal-mart and get the green tin of Bag Balm. It's like a medicated vaseline. It will help the horrible bloody rash on his behind. My son had ear infections every other week, he had to have tubes put in. He's 4 now and has only had 2 infections in 2 years.

Take him to immediate care and see a doctor. Sometimes the antibiotics have to be changed if they are not working (takes at least 24 to 48 hours before they kick in). If they can give him a shot instead of pills it will work faster.

I have had huge problems with all three of my kids with this.. About 2 day's MAX!!! If it's not working by then see another Doctor. You might need a better anti or up the dose on the one you have.. Take him back!! Antibiotics are the key!!

Another thing.. Is he stuffed up??? If he is, You need sudafed stat!! You can only get real sudafed BEHIND THE COUNTER at the pharmacy.. Not the new stuff either... You want anything with Phesudophedrine in it!!!

Get some Vick's Mentholatum (sp?) salve, put a small amount in the EDGE of his ear canal. Try to keep him from getting his hands in it if he's pulling at his ear. Something about the Vick's causes the pain to subside after a few minutes. I know, I didn't beleive it til I tried it. It does work. Hope this works for him.

My oldest son is prone to ear infections. It usually takes the amoxicillin a few days to start working well enough to heal it. Try holding a warm washcloth on the infected ear, if he will let you. It seems to help my kids. Good Luck =)
