Why give this doll? Isn't there a better way to support the fight against breast cancer without making 8 year olds worry about breast cancer?

Afterall, there are many Doctors who feel that worry can cause illnesses, and even cancer.

One m or two is irrelevant to the question.

We all have a loved one in chemo. The running thing is not new. I heard that years ago.

Barbie teaching about breast cancer, makes less sense than saying a condom will teach you about sex.

It may be great for your daughter to hear 100 times per day that it is likely that this terrible disease may very well kill her one day, and than get death breast gifts, but it's not ok for mine.

No breast cancer message ever cured anyone. We all know to check our breasts. We don't need that message ALL day, every day.

Until you have a body part the world is telling you may kill you, you are not qualified to answer even if you are married to someone confronting the disease.

By the way, the one message the media does not give us is that the medical community has a pretty good idea what has caused this epidemic. Now there is some information we could use.

I totally agree that the breast cancer "message" is too much stress to place on a child.

Add that to stranger awareness, Amber alerts, pedophiles, and terrorists, it's a wonder every human isn't on Prozac. What will these kids be like when they are adults? Walking time-bombs from all the stress? Coronaries waiting to happen.

Besides, how much money from that Barbie is going to the "fight", a few pennies? A buck? It's a high price to pay.

Let's let our children be children for a short time at least.

My wife is 18 months out of her breast cancer diagnosis. My mother in law is dying of breast cancer.

First of all, it's Susan KOMEN.

Second, women need to understand about breast cancer from the minute God hands them a pair of breasts. Each generation of women need to know about all of their health needs, and in this case, they need to understand about breast self-examination.

Third, many girls play with Barbie dolls well past puberty, through junior high on occasion. The inclusion with the Barbie doll is a great time to get the message out to young women.

Fourth, there are doctors that believe darned near anything will cause cancer. I read today that long-distance running causes cancer. I'd rather risk "cancer by worry" over "Death by ignorance" any day.

If you think this is an awful idea because it causes women to worry, what is your alternative idea? You know, one that won't worry them?
