80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

Everyone born in this world has a unique role that only he or she can fulfill. Were this not the case, we would not be here. The universe never acts without cause; everything invariably has a reason for being. Even the weeds people love to loathe serve a purpose. I might add that every cherry blossom has its own personality, a purpose and meaning in life that is unique to it—as do the plum, peach and damson.

To me the meaning of life is to realize that you are borrowing a space on earth for a short time, so respect it, and others, and yourself. Understand that our time for living is not guaranteed for any span of time, so LIVE!!! Also understand that the things we choose to do in our life will probably have a much larger impact on other lives...both present and future...so be wise, enjoy and love.

Don't accept any answers that are specific only to humans. The issue is LIFE.

Universal among all forms of life:
1. Reproduce (Mitosis, Germination, Insemination)
2. Not die for as long as possible

The meaning of life is different to every single person on the planet, like asking what a snowflake or a fingerprint looks like...

There really is no purpose in life but while you have the chance to have a life why not use it to the best you can. Just live.

To each his own...is the meaning of life. Why? Because life is how you make it. How you survive against all odds...how you celebrate your success...how you laugh when you're happy and how you cry when you're sad. It's started through conception and ends in death.
