You generally can't read a book that's been recently published by a for-profit publishing house, like Eragon, for free on-line. The publishers and the author hold a copyright, which keeps anyone else from legally distributing the work.

After a number of years, the copyright ends and sometimes the book is put on the web for free. Project Gutenberg has a huge number of free, "old" books. See: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page.

Technically, if you downloaded a book on the Internet for free, it's most likely illegal. There's a reason books are copyrighted: they reserve an author's rights to the book, and it makes it illegal to copy the material. Why don't you just buy the book, or borrow it from your local library? Not only is that more practical, but it's also legal.

Reading the book instead of viewing the movie is the best way to see what the author expected. Reading uses your thoughts, hones your reading skills, and can increase your vocabulary

since eragon is fairly new, i don't think you can read that online for free. you can read older, free-content texts on wikisource.
