I am going to a formal party, and soon I will be shopping for a gown, somewhat like a prom or homecoming dress. I want to know how to tell what will look most flattering on me! There's some colors that just look terrible on people. For instance, red isn't good for me because in pictures my cheeks and nose will turn up pink no matter what make up I wear. I have brown eyes and long blonde hair if that helps any. I'm also very short and slender, with no hope for cleavage. lol

believe it or not, coral and aqua are universally flattering colors, they look good on almost every skin type and tone.

PS, black does not work for everyone. It makes me look washed out and makes the dark circles under my eyes stand out

Hi there, I would go to a nice place like JC Penny's or Dillards, someplace that doesn't work on commission and ask them their honest opinion on dresses when you try them on. If you go to a place where they get commission, they are apt to lie to you on the dress just to get more commission. With your hair color and eye color, I suggest maybe a pretty sage green dress color, or even an emerald green color. But go with what the person that works in that department suggests...they would know best. Good luck, and happy shopping!

It really depends on your skin tone mostly, and somewhat your hair and eye color as well. You didn't say what color your skin is so I can't suggest anything.

If your skin tone is olive, stay away from pinks and yellows. If your skin tone is peachy, stay away from oranges, and reds. If your skint one is pale, stay away from blacks. If your skin tone is inbetween, blue isn't great. I would recommend grey for any tone of skin. Try adding your own flair of colors with bags and shoes for instance.

If you are slender, most colors will work. Also, black always works.
