I avoid R rated movies because I don't like gratuitous foul language, gore, or sex scenes. I know this is an older movie and rating guidelines have changed, so maybe it would be considered more of a PG-13 type movie today? If someone who's seen the movie could tell me what exactly makes it rated R, or if it isn't as bad as the rated R movies today, that would be great.

At the risk of ruining the movie for you, there is a rape scene in it. You don't actually seen genitalia, but it is a very disturbing scene. That is probably the only reason it is R, I don't remember much foul language, if any. It was a movie I was kind of sorry I saw, because it was so disturbing to me afterward.

It contains scenes of man on man anal sex so it has to be rated R. You will be better off if you don't watch this movie as you said you didn't like sex scenes and foul language. The only redeeming thing about this movie is some very nice scenery.

It's the sexual content. There are scenes where Ned Beatty is getting raped by a back woodsman. You can't see everything but you can tell what is happening.

As I recall, there are some violent scenes and a scene that alludes to sodomy...see the review below.

Mostly violence and rape. It would probably still be an R today.
