"Behold, I send you out as sheep amidst the wolves." Now I may not have gotten it completely right, but I'm confident that I got it at least mostly right. My question is, simply, what does this line mean to you? Please be as thorough as possible in answering this question :).

Good lord people! Can't anyone just answer a question without being a smartass these days!? I appreciate those of you who actually answered honestly and sencerely, but for those of you who answered things such as "anyone who doesn't know what this means is an idiot", I pitty you and your lack of an expansive mind and open eyes. Even the smallest of phrases can mean millions of different things to millions of different people. Please dont answer this question if all you're going to answer is "Anyone who doesnt know what that means is dumb." Thanks.

To me this indicates how meek and mild those who are following the Good Shepherd are to be. A sheep that has Jesus as shepherd has nothing to fear...even in the midst of wolves.

This passage is a little bit like nitroglycerin. Its dangerous to interpret it in an extreme manner.

As Christians (of which, I am one), we need to realize that there are evil people and evil entities which seek specifically to destroy our faith, cripple our confidence in Christ, and block any Christlike action on our parts. If we do not realize this, than we are like sheep on their way to the market. However, I believe in another passage it says that we need to act like lambs, yet think like lions. We need to be aware of the threats. We need to be able to think like our adversary, yet not internalize that thought processes, and we need to be sure that our actions are always loving. Note, loving, does not always mean, "nice" or "doormat"

However, (and this is where the danger comes in) if we take this passage too far, we begin to see evil everywhere. We become afraid of anything. We refuse to listen to the radio, or stay in dorms at college (an incident at my school where someone was allowed to violate the freshman on campus rule by claiming that it would violate his faith to live in those "dens of iniquity.") We essentially lose our faith in our attempts to protect it. I believe an unchallenged faith is no faith at all. You see this in fundamentalists who see demons in every corner. Or with parents who overshelter their kids, who then have terrible difficulty living in the real world as independent beings.

The world is filled with evil violent men who hate God and the teachings of His Holy Advocate.
Thankfully,He gave me Gospel armor and a VERY sharp sword. "Yea,though I walk through the valley of the shadow of Death,I SHALL FEAR NO EVIL."

Out to spread the holy word, in a world that is run by Satan. We are to try and bring souls to Christ amongst many that would eat us for supper.
