Were I used to live they had a mermaid festival.

Lots of them. I live in a quaint downtown area, and they have at least 5-10 different festival activities throughout the year. I love it, actually.

yeah, we have a festival that started when abraham lincoln christened the town with watermelon juice, dubbed the watermelon festival, they changed it to the balloon fest now, and people have hot air balloon contests, we also have a railsplitting festival in honor of abraham lincoln,

Cornpone Day! Cornpone is something kind of like cornbread, tiny little cornbread cakes. . .and that's what cornpone day celebrates.:) Gotta love weird, rural southern towns!
