no, you're only considered a criminal when the government convicts you.

mmm, I dont know maybe the past is a good indicator of the future...your good faith in people is a poor indicator when determining who you should trust in a job requiring same. If the person is a child molester and he was hired on the good faith that the interviewer had, there would be alot of injured children and pissed off parents. I do think that people SHOULD be judged on the records that they have. Any employer that knowingly hires someone who has a criminal record opens themselves up to all types of problems if that person offends again. WHy would any SANE person take that risk? If I owned a bank, the check kiter would not have a chance to even interview. It would not matter to me if he came into the interview with an Armani suit and a notarized letter from his priest. Most accomplished thieves have master the art of lying in middle school. They can gain the confidence of the most diligent hiring managers. Fortunately there is another tool (the criminal record) for them to predict who will be a sucessful hire. At least with the person who has not been caught, the boss has plausible deniablitiy. If the boss hired the criminal and he stole money from the bank (again) the shareholders would call for his head while they paid out millions in lawsuits from the newest round of victims. Judging a person based on your good faith in people can get you killed: THINK TED BUNDY

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it....

It depends on how you write the defintion. Is a criminal someone who has committed a crime? Or someone who has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt to have committed a crime?

Either one is potentially a valid definition.

Ethically you are a criminal as soon as you commit a crime.

Legally you are not a criminal until you have been convicted of that crime.

Yes - they are criminals.

A criminal is someone who commits crimes. It doesn't matter if they have been caught or not.
