OK, I am 23, never been to a gyno, never had a pap test done, never had an exam on my vagina or any of my womanly organs....if i am not sexually active and still a virgin is it something that i really need to have done right now. I am absolutely terrified of it and the thought of that area being examined and something getting stuck up me honeslty makes me want to faint. What do doctors do if their patient is nervous while getting a pap done? can they give u anasthesia and put u to sleep? lol i cant even get a tampon inside me, what the heck does the doctor think shes gonna be able to do.../

Going to the gyno is very important, wether you are a virgin or not. They say you should start going at age 18, no matter what your sexual status is, unless you are younger and sexually active. The doctors understand that probably 99% of women feel the same way you too. How do you expect to have children if you don't want anyone looking down there? lol Sorry, anyways, you really do need to go for your own health. You may have HPV and not know it, since there are no signs or symptoms, but it can be a very serious health issue. Nobody can tell you what to do, but this is somewhere you need to go eventually, and putting it off isn't going to help. Maybe have a friend go with you? It might sound even wierder, but it may also be comforting. Good luck to you.

You should go at least once a year if your having sex but since you're not there is no way the doctor can get their medical instrument up in you.. I wouldn't know for sure but if they do examine virgins I am sure they would have to do it differently because of the hymen. i am going on 24 and have been getting checked since I was 17. It really isn't that bad. they tell you to relax (and you can always ask for a female gyno). and they try and small talk with you about normal things and you covered up so you can't even see the doctor if you were to look down. and they shine a light on you down there so they can see(it's like she's working under the hood of a car. ha ha) and it is warm.and it is over before you know it ...I usually just stare at the ceiling.

I know exactly how you feel. I went through the same thing and it took me forever to go see one. I was so nervous but the doctor made me feel comfortable. the best advice i can give you is talk to your friends and find a good gyno, one that your friends like, that make them feel comfortable. even if you are a virgin and are not sexually active there are so many other things that could be going on in there that you will never know if you don't get checked yearly.
they wont give you anesthesia or put you to sleep.
believe me in the long run its best to get examined that way later on in life you wont have any problems with getting pregnant and fertility or even cancer. I dont mean to scare you but really its not all that bad...bring a friend with you or someone you can count on to get you through it....you will be fine!!

It probably wouldn't hurt to get a pap done, since you're in your twenties. You could talk to the nurse when you make your appointment and explain that you are really terrified. Maybe they could call in a mild sedative or something to help you relax, or maybe they could let the doctor know that you would like a consultation before the exam. Good luck.

you should have had your pap test done several years ago, even if you are sexually active or not. don't worry it may take you for only about five minutes to get your body to be examined and a few seconds to have the pap done.

you can have somebody with you, a sister, your mother or a friend to accompany you.

it's better to fell relaxed and pee first before your exam bacause it will help lessen the discomfort when the speculum is inserted.

The general rule is if you are sexually active or 18+ you should go to a gynocologist. Just to make sure that everything is functioning normally, and to make sure that there aren't any problems. Being a virgin or not doesn't have anything to do with it. And, if you have trouble getting a tampon in, you might have some problems. And while it might hurt, they try to prevent that from happening.

Your fears can compromise your health. Make an appt. to talk to an OBGYN before your actual appt. to make sure you are comfortable with the Dr. of your choice. Ask all the questions you have, and get informed. It really isnt that big of a deal.

No, they won't put you to sleep for a pap smear. You either need to learn to deal with it or don't go. But you should go for the first time the year your first period started.
