i know how to do everything except the most important part, when you start to acutally balance the equation like multiplying to the compounds. whenever i try to balance out one, the others become unbalanced again and i keep going back and forth and it never becomes balanced! please help! :(

ps if this doesnt make sense or if i can provide a sample problem, please let me know and i will do it.

The tip I give to my student is to always FINISH with the element that has only one type of atom, like O2 or H2. This way, when you balance it, you won't disturb any work done previously.

Its always liek that when balanceing equations
a good tip is when you start the problem, write all the numbers on one side of the equation down on one side and the other side on the other
like if u have 4H+20=2H+0
4 Hydrogen 2 hydrogen
2 oxygen 1 oxygen

its a good way to get your thoughts in order

Here is the lecture my Chem prof gave us about how to balance equations :) I think it is very helpful. There is the normal balancing by just "looking" at it, and theres also a really cool algebraic method for harder equations.
