Remember the trailer for Farenheit 9/11? Some congressman or something said that they never read the Patriot Act before signing it and they barely read half the bills put in front of them. Who was that guy? Was he telling the truth? Isn't that a little scary? I've always wondered about it since that movie came out.

Slightly off topic, I asked this question a few months ago at IMDb and no one could answer me. That's why I'm so glad I discovered this site. It's like instant gratification. And you can ask anything!

All of Bush's controversial laws were passed without being thoroughly read. Perhaps if that wasn't the case, many of those laws would not have been passed and Congress's and Bush's approval ratings would be much higher.

If you look at thr volume of what they vote on, I'm sure they never read most of it. Hopefully a staff member reads them & gives the congressman a summary, but I wouldn't bet on that. If a Congressman tried to read every bill that came to the floor, it would keep him busy 24/7 & that still wouldn't be enough.

Do not be misled by anything Michael Moore implies - there is no doubt in my mind that these bills are not read thoroughly by the representatives who vote on them - which might imply that they just flip a coin and rubber stamp the ones that come up heads - but, make no mistake, they know exactly what the implications and purpose of the bills are for.

I believe that is true. A lot of the bills are quite lengthy
