Okay for one think about these problems, turn them into everyday questions like how many cherries each person gets or something like that. Now the problem, 3y - 4+ 5y - 7=, first you need to know what y is so figure that. Then multiply 5 times y. Then subtract 7 from that. That is the answer part of the equation but not the final answer. Now, multiply 3 times y. And subtract 4 from that answer. That is the answer.
