after dunga took over brazil as their new coach i now have more confidence in them..their disasterous performance during the world cup is nowhere compared to the new brazil team..their performance have been great and enjoyable to watch since dunga took over..and the fact that the new team is built around relatively young players i have great confidence that this new brazil team can go as far as winning the next world cup in 2010..
the newly-crowned world champion, italy, however hasn't look good enough lately to claim their title as the new world cup champion..sum say it's the new coach to blame but i prefer to stay silent..whatever it is if they failed to win or even qualify for euro 2008 it might tarnish their world cup glory..
france is now a new team since the world cup ended..the french maestro zinedine zidane is no longer with them to inspire and to help the team reach it's glory..most ppl have doubts that the new france can go as far as the old france did..but recent performances both at international and club level might as well proved the doubters wrong..
germany has built a new young and talented team around their last coach juergen klinsmann..they have shown the world how good they were during the world cup..when klinsmann left the building many doubt joachim lowe can do the job as good as klinsmann did it..but germany has been on par and up to everyone's level of expectations since then..like france, they too might just proved the doubters wrong..
all in all..i have to say brazil is the team to beat at the moment..

Hello Ron
All teams have had a touch of erratic form since the WC. Germany have had a few close calls against lesser strength opponents even though they have come away with the win. I thought the France would have overcome Greece a little easier than they did, but have bounced back very well from a very emotional defeat in the WC final. Brazil have been doing some nice things under new staff and are being quite bold with their selections of players and Italy have managed to put together some nice wins also. There is always so many changes with player/coach retirements and replacements after such a major tournament. I think a few more matches will give a clearer perspective on how teams will progress and who stands stronger.

Based on the FIFA World Rankings as of October 2006, Brazil is at the top of the list, followed by Italy and France, respectively. Germany is in sixth place.
Edit: Oh, my apologies for mistaking your question.
Personally, I would honestly think that Italy remains at the top. They played fantastic matches, particularly the semi-final. I understand that they may not focus on their attack as much, but I believe that the defensive tactics employed in the World Cup tournament were entirely appropriate for each occasion and essential in their eventual victory.
International matches in general, the Italian team would be at least tied with Brazil. As always, they were very strong in this World Cup, and it was unfortunate for them to be eliminated from the tournament in the quarter-finals.

Brazil would of been one of the top countries but based on their performance in the world cup it would have to be Italy.
This is the first world cup that I've seen such a poor performance from Brazil!
