Many men "sub-consciously" hate women. Men are "gay" for TOTALLY PHYSIOLOGICAL REASONS. I have found that gay men have been my "best friends."To ponder "why" men are gay, is as much of a waste of time as pondering why I have green eyes. WE ARE WHO WE ARE. Wonder why "gays" generate so much curiosity!! They are not curious about "us."
*** If anyone has "researched" with CREDIBILITY any differences
in other countries or cultures, (which I doubt), "possible" statistics may be only indicators that homosexuality has been oppressed & not "tallied." Homosexuality has existed throughout history in many countries & cultures. Homosexuality exists with animals & insects, which PROVES DEFINITIVELY that it is not a matter of "choice" or "environmental circumstance." SPECULATION is the name of the game; there is nothing logical or useful about it.
I am COMPELLED to add one more observation, since homesexuality is gnawed @ like a dog w/a bone. SIMPLISTIC SPECULATIONS are given by those who, for their own "reasons" are determined to find an answer that basically "confirms" the concept of "choice." ..."stay gay because they don't want to face the fears.." HELLO? HOW PRESUMPTUOUS to make silly assumptions about something of which one is totally uninformed. That "homosexual behaviour" is known in other mammals is a FACTUAL statement. (Are they given free choice?) There's also another answer here somewhere, in essence, that gays are more like women (?) to which I TOTALLY AGREE. Gays have been my very best friends, thus, obviously, they don't "hate women." The most sensitive, caring & loving--far more than ANY heterosexual man I've ever known. I was recently, profoundly, encouraged by a CIVIL, INTELLIGENT coversation on CSpan, where an EVANGELIST had the wisdom to accept that being "gay" is NOT a choice. People can say poo poo to science as much as they like, but if one keeps informed, they'll discover there is credible evidence of physiological causes.

Here's the thing. Gay men are men, too and a lot of men hate women. The nicest men I've ever known have been guy men, but when I worked at the MCC church I ran into a lot of woman hating gay men, including the pastor of the church. However, that's not the reason they're gay. If every man who hated women was gay... well, there would be a huge gay population explosion!

You have too much time on your hands! I am gay because I love men not because I hate women!
Sometimes the simple answer is the right one, no need to search for meaning or a pattern where there is none.

Anything is possible, I suppose. It's possible that the sun won't rise tomorrow, or that you'll suddenly sprout feathers.
Speaking for myself as a gay man, most of my friends are straight, and a number of them are women. And I love 'em, just not in the sexual way.
I do know some gay men who are misogynistic, but I don't think this is really the cause of their attraction to men. More and more scientific evidence indicates a very strong biological component to the development of same-sex attractions. Indeed, same-sex pairing has been observed in over 1,500 species, so perhaps it's time to put the outdated psychoanalytic "unconscious fear of women" theory to rest. (I am a psychologist, by the way.)
Besides, there are plenty of straight guys who hate women, too. In fact, our entire culture is one that prizes "masculine" qualities (e.g., strength, independence, stoicism) and devalues "feminine" qualities (i.e., gentleness, interdependence, sensitivity). One of the reason that gay men are so despised is because they violate traditional gender roles. Lesbians seem to have it somewhat easier, perhaps because they are perceived as deviating in a masculine direction.
Someone else who answered this question remarked that there are more gay men in Western countries (e.g., the US, the UK, Germany) and fewer in Eastern countries (e.g., China, India, Iran). It is notable that they hang gay men in Iran, and homosexuality remains a punishable offense in India. This doesn't mean that these countries have a smaller proportion of gay men, of course; it's just that most of them remain in hiding in order to avoid punishment.
Also, several Native American tribes had the tradition of berdache, or "two-spirit people," who were biologically male but lived as females. They dressed as women, and sometimes even incised their inner thighs once a month to simulate menstruation. They were not feared or despised because they were different; rather, they were prized for their differentness, and were believed to have great spiritual powers because they were unconstrained by the usual boundaries of gender.
Of course, this all changed when the "savage" tribes were "civilized" and forced to convert to Christianity.

No, lol. They are gay because they like guys. I would have thought that was really obvious.
You really need to buy a clue. Animals of most mammalian species show some members with homosexual behavior. Perhaps this is a clue that it's natural in humans as well.

Sure...Its also possible that straight men subconsciously hate women too....But I am sure it has nothing to do with why men are gay.

All the gay guys I know love women. They just aren't atracted to girls.
I think many girls hate each other though. But I guess that's off topic.

none that I know of. but, people are gay/lesbian because they are attracted to the same gender....they are born that way. not because they "hate" the opposite sex. I don't hate men, I have lots of male friends. I'm just not sexually attracted to them. big difference. why do so many straight people believe that silly stereotype anyway?
