laptops use what is called so-dimm memory which is different than what goes in a desktop. you will have to check your manufacturer website to know what kind to get. Or you can open up the cover on the bottom and it may have a chip already in there that you can tell what kind it takes (most laptops have 2 slots for memory with one slot filled and the other empty). The older laptops will be either pc100 or pc133. The newer ones will be either DDR or DDR2, won't matter too much on the speed.

As it is different for each make and model of Laptop (and completely different then the RAM for a desktop) you will need to check the document (or web site) of the manufacturer for the exact model of RAM you need. Once you have their part number, you can search some of the "generic" sites (like Kingston) for a match for the part number.

(Just make sure it has horns...)
