Is there a ceramic studio in your area? They offer classes quite often.Call around and see if they do. They will show you how to do what you want.

the mugs are coated with a special 'sublimatin glaze '
the transfers are printed on 'sub' carrier paper with 'sub ' ink
the transfer is then taped to the mug using heat tape & put in a heat press for about 3 minutes at 200 C - at this point the ink leaves the carrier paper and works 'into' the glaze , the mug is removed , the carrier paper removed and the mug dunked in water to cool , if you wanna do heaps you can get your own gear
but if you only wanna do 1 or 2 it might be cheaper to get someone to do them for you . if you are in australia , i can do you 1 for $ 10 plus postage

approximate prices for equipment are:
mug heat press $250
epson r210 printer $250
continuous ink system $250
ink (100 ml ) $ 70
paper ( per 100 sheets ) $ 40
mugs (each ) $ 4
heat tape (per roll ) $ 20

hope this helps
cheers:
paul :-}
