Generally, those in the working population are seen because of their pre-employment & annual Physical Examination.

Hypertension, Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease, Stroke are diseases not of the elderly anymore but of the younger generation.
Filipinos are mostly overweight or obese. Though majority are still within the ideal weight. with overweight & obesity comes the above problem. The first line of treatment should be diet & exercise. Filipinos tend to overeat. We already have rice, we eat pansit or sphagetti also which are served on special occasions. Aside from these, we have desserts which are also carbohydrates like suman & other native derlicacies such as sapin-sapin, cassava cake, puto which are too heavy also.

The fastfood chains had influenced our lifestyle globally. The trend is to upsize the softdrinks & the frenchfries which are higher in sugar content, cholesterol! Proper diet & exercise should be emphasized. We eat too much. Breakfast, lunch, dinner & 2 snacks in between. We have many occasions like fiestas, baptisms, weddings & other parties to attend to but little time for exercise.

Cancer is also detected in the younger generation. As a matter of fact, I had arleady 3 batchmates , 1 in high school and 2 in college who already died due to cancer. It is not that we dont have family history. Probably in the time of our grandparents, we really didnt know their cause of death because they dont have Annual Physical Examinations & Pre-Employment. Papsmear, breast examination & Mammography are not even done to other female patients.

PREVENTION is the key word to diseases which is also neglected by other doctors. They just give medications without explaining everything to a patient. There is one patient taking medication for cholesterol but doesnt know verbatim what foods to avoid. There are diabetics not advised by doctors to limit their fruits. Imagine, diabetic patients indulging in too much fruits! Definitely the sugar wont go down.

Many patients had seen cardiologists for hypertension and yet these patients thought that they will only take the medication for 1 week or so. They werent explained the fact that it should be lifetime to avoid complications such as stroke, coronary artery disease, renal failure and so on.
