PG Wodehouse (pronounced WOODhouse) is a British author of comic material - some are short stories, and some are novel length. He wrote the Jeeves books. The situations are hysterical, but of course they are set in early 20th c England and seem dated, unless you like that period of the world's history. A gentler time for one thing.
Or the vet series of "All things Great and Small" by oohhhh what is his name? Set in England in the Dales. Someone will know. Mostly short stories but they link together. No sex or bad language.

The Hitchiker's Guide to the Universe by Douglas Adams (several books in a series)
The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul also by Douglas Adams
He was a comic genius (he died about 2 years ago) and he will be sorely missed. You can find some of his books on Half.com for very reasonable prices, and they are hysterical. He has a cult following (including me!) that will hurt someone for touching their books!!

These are two series of books but funniest books I've ever read are by Erma Bombeck and Lewis Grizzard. Usually can find them at the library. Bev

Try reading anything by Terry Pratchett. I particularly recommend "Good Omens" as well as his Discworld series. The first book in the series is "The Color of Magic".

H2G2 does mention sex and uses the f word once in the last bit of the series, but I would let it slide...
Terry Pratchett did the DISCWORLD series if you like offbeat humor.
Garrison Kellior did several books on homespun humor.
