I downloaded the new version of MSN Messenger, it's called MSN LIVE .... and I do not like it...I want the older version back, but I can't seem to get it back.....any suggestions what to do??? I went to Yahoo to look up MSN older versions, and I tried that. After I downloaded MSN 5.0, it wouldn't let me sign on, saying a newer version is available to use that (and I don't like it)

Windows Live Messenger is just the new name for MSN Messenger. Most of the changes are superficial.

The error you experienced may be inevitable, as they do cut off support of the older versions. You can try MSN Messenger 6, though: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Chat/Instant-Messaging/MSN-Messenger-6.shtml -- might work.

Like it or not, it is the only choice! Microsoft has phased out and updated, and yahoo had to follow suit with the program. i do not like it either, but You need to remove older version from your computer before installing the new one, or the new one will not work right either, I suggest that you download the mozzila firefox to go along with it. The Internet explorer 7 does not work well with the new messenger either

You could try Trillian Messenger which works with MSN, Yahoo, and AOL. It's a pretty good substitute.

They are phasing out the MSN name. But they could not have picked a more confusing name since there is already a Windows mess.
