Don't waste your money,you need a breatheable epoxy coating which you then stain,go to a local mason yard and ask them.I personally sell these types or coatings which I have installed which years of success.In our area A.H Harris sells such products .Checkout these websites.

Yes, Sherwin-Williams and Behr paints give very good coverage and therefore cost a little more. However, if you get uneven wall coverage with a cheaper paint, you haven't really solved anything, especially if it results in streaks or uneven spots. It stands to reason then that you save time and money with the better paints.

As Home Depot's premium, I use it often, and the substance alone, you speak of should be adequate from any premium name brand.
I can't imagine using it on steps, given that rain, etc. will cause them to be slippery. I use concrete stain for that kind of work. There is no reason to SEAL exterior concrete steps.
Aesthetics is why anyone paints concrete, and if I know one thing, it's that the customer is always right,,, even when they aren't.
Use the product. You'll get the desired effect, and unless you truly believe it can last "forever",,, be happy with it, as it becomes weathered, gets scraped and abrades with time.
