Whats better arranged marriages or love marriages?

A few years ago I would have said love...Americans have preconceived notions of what arranged marriages constitute. I read about them and after I did, I wanted to have one and wished it was a common practice here! The families of young women carefully screen men in all areas (family, financial, compatibility) and present the couple to each other. Women aren't "forced" to marry the men in the majority of cases. Their families love them just like families here love their daughters and want them to be happy. So I think arranged marriages are better.

Depends on your culture and upbringing I guess
Most elderly people in my family had arranged marriage and they NEVER had divorces or separations.
There were only two couples married by love, but they only lasted 10 - 15 yrs.
My generation though, married by love mostly. My brothers and some friends have been married now for almost 10 yrs and my marriage is going 7 yrs now.
Every marriage has its own difficulty, it's up to you how to handle it. I don't think it's in your culture here in the West to have arranged marriage, it may be difficult for you to handle or even to get married in the first place.

nothing like love had a friend that was from Arabia she was a arranged marriage to a man she never met until she got married 10 years later and 4 children she still hated the man and could not divorce him don't think I would like an arranged anything.

I've never been exposed to arranged marriages--nor have a lot of people answering this question, I'd bet. I'm sure there are advantages to both. Love *isn't* everything, sometimes--no matter what the movies lead you to believe. So I'm not sure which is better.

Love marriages either last or fail. Arranged marriages usually happen in societies where you shouldn't get divorced.

love marriage becuz you know the person.
i am indian and most indians get arrange marriages but still some get love marriages.
i went to a wedding in the summer when it was a love marriage.
most people in india neva fall in love lol.
so after college they are 28 and their parents don't want them to wait until they more older.
and besides, marriages are likke never broken in arranged marriages.
but basically, love marriages are better cause you really love the person

Love only takes you so far..... After that there is the contract/license whatever you want to call it. Americans do not live up to their vows and divorce more often than not. This is not the case in cultures that have arranged marriages.

For arranged marriages, they are for your parents and not for you. You live life once and love marriage is prefered. You want to choose who you want to live your rest of your life with, right?

i think it all depends on who u r n where u r living . if u r mommy's boy then i believe u wil wan 2 listen n obey her every word . if u r living in some parts of any countries of conservative idealogy u might just follow wat ur ancestors hv been doing all tis while . so 2 say if a love marriage works n last i think n u also know it is all crabs . right ? u wil never know or understand how an arrange marriage works ? y ? bcoz u guys simply puts it 2 love n d freedom 2 love . in tis aspect tis is wat we all call our rights . but a lot or most arrange marriage does works . y ? simply bcoz the couple wil give each other a chance . isn;t tis chance is wat all d free 2 love people looking , searching n yet most of d time being deny of ? n u know wat tis couple in an arrange marriage so willingly give 1 another tis chance .
