Justine rules! Very consistent, number one on the ranking with the very least number of tournament played.

As for american player, there is Sharapova. Not quite but otherwise the tennis world will remain american free for an other 3 years I would say.

G'day Jaclyn,

Thank you for your question.

Justine Henin-Hardenne is world number 1. While she made the finals of all the slams this year, she only won the French. Amelie Mauresmo won two slams in Australia and Wimbledon while Maria Sharapova won the US Open.

It might be a while before a US player returns to the top. The Williams sisters seem to have lost interest while Lindsay Davenport is not as strong as she once was. The US would be looking to a new champion to restore its dominance as it has no players in the top 25.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

The most dominant player is Justine Henin-Hardenne for now.
She is ranked #1 in the world, won the season-ending tour title,
plus she made the finals of all four Grand Slam tournaments during the season. Serena or Venus are probably the best US hopes among the women, while Davenport is probably in the twilight of her career, and I don't know what happened to Capriati. Did she retire or what?
I doubt it. Jo K.L. Madrid isn't a Slam. JHH won 1 Slam (French) and made the finals of the other three (Australian, Wimbledon and US). Stop making excuses for the Williams sisters and Davenport. JHH can beat them too. Justine hasn't lost to Davenport since 2002, and has beat her the last eight times they have played. She has a losing record against Serena, but they have split their last six meetings, since losing the first two meetings. The last time they played was in 2003. Venus is one player that can give Justine problems. She has beaten Justine seven consecutive times, and Justine has only beat her once, and that was on a surface that Justine excels on, clay.

definitely justine henin hardenne.she reached all 4 slam finals, won the season ending WTA championships and the french open.and shes also no. 1 in the world.even though she has a small built her game is totally powerpacked and fun to watch.her backhand is just too good.at the moment she definitely dominates though its not the federer type dominance.
as for a US player there is none at the top and i feel we gotta wait for a new player cos davenport is too old and the williams sisters are pretty much out.

When we talk of the entire 2006 season definitely Henin- Hardenne, Mauresmo and Sharapova are there. These three players has definitely dominated the field this season sharing the 5 biggest titles of 2006. And it would be nice if we have three-way rivalry next season.

I would have to say Justine Henin, though i dislike her... But she's proved to us that she's strong in physique and mental and she's very consistent. Reaching the finals of all 4 Grand Slams this year plus the season-ending championships, winning 2 of them, French and Madrid.
Next year Serena, Venus and Davenport would be ready after quiet a long break. The three of them scored 'OK' results this year after a break of injury and etc, it means next year they will be ready to smack the likes of Mauresmo, Sharapova or even Henin-Hardenne...
