Homeland security is intended to protect the country from terrorism. However, the fight against terrorism entails an intrusion into private records and bank accounts in order to identify terrorists and their supporters which is a tradeoff for civil liberties considering that innocent persons might be breached.

The goals of Homeland Security are fairly obvious. The problem arises with how many civil liberties are lost. Phone taps, searches without probable cause, book monitoring, censorship, racial profiling. That's the million dollar question. Cops will tell you profiling works. But there will be mistakes and innocents hurt. Where is that fine line? I honestly don't know. Sometimes I find the ACLU annoying, but I am damn glad they around to ensure some of our freedoms are protected. They may be able to provide the balance.

Your teacher must be a liberal because the two are not related. It is the liberals that think that civil liberties are sacraficed at the expence of homeland security.

We must be very vigilant in these times of global terrorism and unrest. Our safety, as a nation, is paramount.

By the way, you should have not posted this question. Now you must be careful as you read this. Other eyes and ears will be watching you and I from this point forward.

Hope I've answered your question.
