If you chart your bbt..does it just tell you after you ovulated? not when your ovulating? I'm using all three methods charting, the urine predictor and the saliva predictor...but is the bbt charting just for when your trying for a few months?

The BBT charts your temperature throughout your cycle to find out if you do ovulate. Your temp will vary daily but will stay normal, after ovualting your temp increases and evens out at a higher temp. This is due to the hormone that is in your body during and after ovulating. Everybodys temp will differ, so don't compare to somebody else. Just keep tracking. Depending on the length of your cycle you can ovulate a week after you have finished bleeding, or longer. E.G 28 day cycle, day 11 is good to start your urine and saliva tests. This predicts the other hormone levels and lets you know when the best time for conceiving is.
If you are unsure about your chart, take it to a doc and find out what they think about it.
Good luck

Charting your bbt is best when you do it over time, because it shows a pattern of ovulation. Immediately after ovulation your temp will shoot up, sometimes as much as a degree. You should be able to see quite a difference in your temp at that point, and it will help you pinpoint when to have sex during the following months. Definitely use all the methods that you are using now, just to see if they line up. I personally had problems with the ovulation predictor kits and used the clear blue easy fertility monitor with my bbt charting...it was right on track and I got pregnant within a couple of months with it.
Another thing that helped me was the book 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility.' It has all different examples of bbt charts, how they may look and what they might mean for you. I found it so helpful and had a good idea that I was pregnant before I tested simply because my temp went up after ovulation and never went back down again: it looked just like one of the charts in the book. Best of luck to you!

The bbt is a "complimentary" method to find out when you ovulate. It cannot tell you when you will ovulate, it basically lets you know WHEN you ovulated. Your pre-ovulation temps are low and your post ovulation temps are higher.

When you ovulate progesterone is what causes the temp rise. You can count the day before the temp rise as ovulation. Using the ovulation predictor kits and the saliva microscope while taking your bbt should all match up as to when ovulation occured.

BBT shouldn't be used to pinpoint your fertile window since you won't see the rise until after ovulation. After charting your bbt for at least 3-4 months you should be able to see a pattern and anticipate your fertile days before the rise.

Good luck...It took my husband and I 18 months to concieve. I was charting and watching cervical fluid patterns (another sign to watch for). I stopped charting because the pattern got so obvious that I knew my fertile window without taking my temperature.

The Information Temps Give
Taking your waking body temperature can give you information that is very helpful if trying to conceive. If not pregnant your temperature will reflect two phases during a cycle, three phases if conception has occurred. Your temperatures will vary (fall and rise) during your monthly cycle. They will be lower in the first phase, higher in the second phase and higher still in the third phase once implantation takes place. The rise in temps from the first phase to the second phase is caused from ovulation. Your temps will rise only AFTER ovulation has taken place. Charting temperatures alone without using cervical fluid and position DOES NOT indicate when your most fertile time is (before ovulation) until after ovulation has occurred - which is too late. Therefore we recommend that all indicators are charted to give a more efficient reading of fertility.

I would use http://www.fertilityfriend.com to chart your temperatures. They also have a free online charting course where they send you one lesson each day for 20 days in your e-mail to teach you about charting, how to do it, how to know when you O, etc etc
