If someone is ignorant they don't have the facts about whatever is being discussed or asked. It is not the same as stupid because you can be ignorant and smart at the same time. You just don't have all the information you need.

Ignorant is synonymous to nescient, unenlightened, unlearned, unlettered. It means uneducated in general; lacking knowledge or sophistication.

In some sense, it may also mean illiterate.

Some more synonyms are unknowledgeable, unknowing, unwitting.

ignorant means dumb...either purposefully or unkowingly. dumb, stupid, unlearned, blinded by untruth, whatever

it means you don't know something, or u've never been taught anything on whatever the subject is. people misuse the word ignorant when they really mean stupid. i always say, "i may b ignorant, but i ain't stupid". stupid is when u know better.
