I use to be a jack of all trades and master of none. Then I took two years of refrigeration at a tech. school, I learned a variety of things like electronics, electrical, mechanical, and chemical.

It is great to know something about a lot of things even if you don't become an expert in a specific trade.
It leave you with plenty of room for improvements and discoveries and even people that are considered Masters in theyr field, have some other activity that they love but are not good at it.
Einstein loved to play the Cello but was so bad that no one would play with him.

Smiles,,, great Q,,, actually should be posted in Philosophy.
Certainly there is nothing wrong with seeking all the knowledge one can, and if one assumes knowledge is available on any level, in any context, there is no reason to deny it,,, accept it, and learn whatever is possible from studying, whatever.
Obviously many of us specialize, and there's no sin in that either. I wouldn't want someone practicing neuro surgery just because they have an extreme passion for chrome, and tools.
I think Einstein quoted,,, and I have to paraphrase.
"Anyone can become and expert at anything, with even short spurts of study over an extended period of time."
Given that we study, or engage in, things most valued to us, for whatever reasons, we have the opportunity to have balance,,, but perhaps also an imbalance in that we focus on a passion more intensely, than we might on balancing a checkbook correctly.

the more areas of trades that you learn, the more you learn about each that makes it difficult too master. Good for learning what you want to do. If you find something you like master it. Knowledge and pride in a thing done right is good And a good paycheck doesn't hurt

I'm a jack of all trades. It's not much of a problem, just make sure the big trades don't get too far behind. (Like having a life, I let that one fall way behind)

My father, born in 1896 said, "The more you know how to do the better chance you have of getting work, especially in a depression."
Why be a "jack of all trades and master of none"? One of my business cards, (we do lots of things,) states, "We do it RIGHT, or we don't do it!"

Sure, it's fine, but if you are master of one it often leads to at least a sound knowledge of other trades. If you are a carpenter, you understand at least a little about painting. And then try some painting, and you will become a better carpenter.

I'd say yes and no. It's an outstanding achievement to be able to do all things at a intermediate level. But you'll get further in life if you are great at something
