I use http://www.limewire.com They have music, videos, photos, etc., all to be downloaded. They have a free version and one that you pay for. (The only difference I can really tell is that the one you pay for means you get to download first, and not have to wait in line as often...which doesn't happen much anyway.)
And, music is a way of personal expression, so there is none that's really 'hot'. Everyone has their own tastes, so go with what YOU like, and don't worry about "everyone else" -- because we all have our own personal likes and dislikes, right?
