OJ Simpson was a well-known ex-football player, who was tried for the murder of his ex-wife and her friend. His trial was significant because evidence was inadvertantly tampered with, and race was a huge issue. Polls showed he was overwhelmingly considered innocent by blacks, and overwhelmingly guilty by whites. Originally when tried, the mostly white Santa Monica jury found him guilty - when re-tried, he then was tried by a mostly-black Los Angeles jury and found innocent.
His case shows how jury selection can be key in determining the results of a trial. Generally, racial disagreements concerning his innocence are still apparent, but many people do think he was responsible for their deaths.
